Jonathan’s version.
Vacation Bible School had come and gone. In October, our family headed to Berne, Indiana to hold a revival meeting. On the way there, the Holy Spirit placed Heather on my heart again. I told my dad and he said he would talk to the pastor. After finding out about the Carroll family, my dad and the pastor met with Heather’s parents. I was extremely nervous. I was pacing the hallways of the church the entire time our parents were meeting. I did not talk to Heather at all. It was not my place to do so. The Bible says, “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick...”. I did not want either of us to get our hopes up if our parents did not agree or approve.
After the meeting, we all parted ways and our family went back to the house where we were staying. My dad told me that the Carrolls would be praying and let us know. That night was rough. I don’t think I slept at all. I was praying a lot because I wanted GOD’S WILL.
The next morning my dad received a phone call from Bro. Carroll. The only problem is he didn’t tell me right away. Later that afternoon my dad says, “Oh, by the way, listen to this voicemail from Bro. Carroll.” I held the phone up to my ear and listened as Bro. Carroll said, “Heather is shocked, but it’s a green light for now”. HOORAY!!! It’s a green light! I had official permission to start courting Heather.
Heather’s version.
Our church had a revival meeting with the Wells planned for October 12th-16th. I looked forward to it, as I always enjoyed when the Wells family came. However, I had no idea that my knight-in-shining-armor would walk into my life that week. On Sunday night of that week, I saw Bro. and Mrs. Wells, my parents, along with my pastor, go into preacher’s office.
I was so tempted to ask my parents questions when we got home, yet I knew it was none of my business. But come Monday night, I could not stand it any longer. I went into my parents’ room and asked my mom about their meeting Sunday night. My mom firmly but kindly told me that it was none of my business.
On Tuesday morning mom was on the phone with dad. When I came out of my room, mom told me that dad had been on the phone. She then said, “He asked me if I had told you yet.” It seemed as if time stood still. Nothing could have prepared me for what mom was about to say. She finally told me that Jonathan was interested in me. “ME!” I exclaimed and laughed. “Why me?” “Out of all those beautiful girls that he has seen, why me?” Needless to say, I was totally shocked. We sat there for a minute, then mom asked me what my answer was. Of course, I told her that it was a “yes”.
I then called my to tell him that I had said yes. Dad in turn called Bro. Wells and left a message on his phone that said something like, “She is shocked, but it’s a green light for now.”
I could not believe it! My dreams were finally coming true. I did not have to go looking for my dream guy. God knew all along who he was, and He brought us together in His timing.
