Jonathan’s version.
I was very excited when the next night of the revival came. I had written my salvation testimony for Heather to read. She had also written her salvation testimony for me to read. We exchanged those letters that night.
After the service our parents talked again to decide how the courtship would go. When we got back to the house my dad and mom told me, “Do not give her your heart”. They wanted to protect me. They told me we were to only be friends so we could get to know each other.
We were allowed to talk on the phone twice a week for thirty minutes each time. I think the neatest thing was that one of our parents had to be in earshot of us talking so they could hear our conversation. I love my parents. I’m so glad they were careful and did not let Heather and I RUSH the courtship. We were also allowed to write letters to each other but our parents had to read them FIRST. My parents also read mine BEFORE I sent them out.
Heather’s version.
I was so nervous to see Jonathan that Tuesday night, yet very excited at the same time. Our parents met again in the preacher’s office to discuss how things were going to go. Since Jonathan and I really didn’t know each other, we were just supposed to be friends. This would allow us to see if we even liked each other. But I knew that he was the one for me. I had told my parents that I only wanted to court the one and only that God had for me.
At first, Jonathan and I were allowed to talk twice a week for thirty minutes each time. He called our home phone and someone had to be with at least one of us to hear our conversation. I seriously did not know what we could talk about for thirty minutes, yet somehow we were always running out of time to talk.
